Off The Record: Arizona’s first singalong bar experience in Phoenix

Off The Record has arrived in Downtown Phoenix. The new interactive singalong bar in Roosevelt Row is bringing a completely different kind of night out to the Valley, one where the crowd becomes the entertainment. Instead of karaoke stages and solo performances, guests sing together through themed DJ-led nights spanning pop, country, Latin, yacht rock and throwback favorites.

What makes Off The Record different from karaoke bars

Unlike traditional karaoke venues, Off The Record removes the pressure of solo performances. There are no microphones and no stage. Instead, the entire room becomes part of the show, creating a shared singalong experience designed around participation rather than performance.

“Off The Record is an immersive, inclusive experience for music lovers who crave connection,” says Ryan Oberholtzer, co-owner and co-founder of sister Phoenix concepts Barcoa Agaveria and Provecho. “It’s a place where people can sing their hearts out and truly embrace the joy that comes from letting loose with their favorite tunes, along with a room full of people sharing the same vibe.”

The idea for the venue was inspired by the owners’ experiences traveling and connecting through music around the world.

“Music evokes memories and emotions in a way few other experiences can,” says Julie Oberholtzer, co-owner of Off The Record. “We saw the power of music bringing people together again and again, and we realized there’s nothing really like that in Phoenix.”

What guests can expect inside the new downtown Phoenix venue

Located at 829 N. First Ave., Off The Record leans heavily into immersive entertainment. Guests are welcomed by a soundproof singing booth near the entrance where visitors can belt out favorite songs before heading inside.

Once inside, 10 jumbo video screens display lyrics throughout the venue, making it easy for guests to sing along even if they don’t know every word. LED lighting shifts colors throughout the night to match the energy and music themes, while props including light wands, microphones, sombreros and novelty sashes help fuel the playful atmosphere.
