Laguna Beach’s Woods Cove Inn reopens with artful, coastal design

A fresh chapter begins along the Pacific Coast Highway as Woods Cove Inn reopens May 11, 2026. Formerly operating under the Sonder brand, the 22-room boutique property has been reintroduced as an independent hotel rooted in local character, thoughtful design and effortless Southern California charm.

A historic property reimagined with a local touch

Owned by hospitality entrepreneur Blake Marriott, the inn was acquired following its unexpected closure and repositioned as an intimate, design-forward escape.

To bring the vision to life, Marriott partnered with Parable Hospitality, a Southern California-based operator with a portfolio spanning more than 30 boutique hotels and resorts across the Pacific Coast and Hawaii.

Hospitality veteran Didi Shields has been appointed general manager, overseeing both Woods Cove Inn and Bay Shores Peninsula Hotel in nearby Newport Beach.

Design inspired by the coast and Laguna’s creative spirit

Designed by CPD Studio, the property blends clean, modern lines with warm, textural elements inspired by nearby Woods Cove beach, known for its cliffs, tide pools and clear blue water.

Each guestroom features:

  • Natural wood finishes
  • Marble bathrooms
  • Commissioned artwork by Jordan Nicole of High Desert Studios

The result is a space that feels quietly curated, like a gallery that decided to take a vacation by the sea.
