Here’s what’s happening on South Padre Island for Labor Day weekend

Summer may be winding down, but South Padre Island is exiting the season in spectacular style. The island will celebrate Labor Day weekend with a lineup of fireworks, music, art and outdoor fun, highlighted by a special 12-minute fireworks finale over the Laguna Madre Bay on Sunday, September 6, at 9:15 p.m.

Here’s what to know about South Padre Labor Day:

  • When: Friday, Sept. 4-Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026
  • Friday and Saturday fireworks: 9 p.m. on the beach side
  • Sunday fireworks finale: 9:15 p.m. over Laguna Madre Bay
  • Finale length: Approximately 12 minutes
  • Best tip: Arrive early Sunday and choose a restaurant or bar along the bay in the Entertainment District to enjoy the synchronized music with the fireworks.
  • Also happening: First Friday Art Walk, plus beach, dining, water activities and entertainment throughout the weekend.

Where to see Labor Day weekend fireworks

The Labor Day weekend festivities begin Friday, September 4, with multiple fireworks displays viewable from establishments throughout the Entertainment District on the bay side of the island. Additional beach-side fireworks will take place Friday and Saturday, September 4 and 5, at 9:00 pm, with views available from Clayton’s, Courtyard Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn and Sand Rose Beach Resort.

More things to do Labor Day weekend

The weekend culminates Sunday, September 6, with South Padre Island’s end-of-summer fireworks spectacular over the Laguna Madre Bay. The 12-minute display begins at 9:15 p.m. and will be synchronized to festive music that can be heard from restaurants and bars along the bay in the Entertainment District. Guests are encouraged to arrive early, settle in and enjoy the waterfront atmosphere before the sky comes alive with the season’s grand finale.

Beyond the fireworks, Labor Day weekend offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy South Padre Island’s beaches, restaurants, entertainment, water activities and vibrant arts scene. Visitors can also experience the First Friday Art Walk and explore the island’s local galleries, shops and creative community.
