Originally built in 1958, the beachfront retreat returns with updated guest rooms and reimagined public spaces, all while preserving the coastal charm and social spirit that have defined the property for generations.

A refreshed icon in the heart of Avalon

Located just 22 miles off the Southern California coast, Catalina Island has long drawn visitors seeking a timeless seaside escape. The reopening of Pavilion Hotel reflects Catalina Island Company’s continued investment in preserving Avalon’s most historic properties while elevating the guest experience for today’s travelers.

“The Pavilion Hotel has always been more than just a hotel; it’s part of Avalon’s cultural fabric,” says Hunter Rusack, president and COO of Catalina Island Company. “This renovation honors the property’s mid-century heritage and social legacy as a gathering place, while positioning Pavilion Hotel to welcome the next generation of Avalon visitors.”

Design rooted in history and coastal style

Set on a site that once housed Avalon’s famed Dance Pavilion in the late 1800s, the hotel’s design draws from its rich past while embracing a fresh, modern aesthetic. The renovation blends mid-century silhouettes with botanical accents and soft coastal tones, creating a relaxed yet refined atmosphere throughout the property.

Guest rooms and suites are designed to welcome ocean breezes, with select deluxe accommodations featuring French doors and private patios overlooking the hotel’s lush central courtyard.

Courtyard living and social spaces

At the center of the experience is the hotel’s open-air courtyard, which continues to serve as a gathering place from morning to evening. Guests can ease into the day on chaise lounges or wind down around the fire pit during the hotel’s signature Social Hour.

Pavilion Hotel joins Catalina Island Company’s collection of properties, including Mt Ada, Hotel Atwater and Banning House Lodge & Villas, all offering distinct approaches to island hospitality.

Guests also enjoy easy access to the company’s portfolio of dining, activities and experiences, from ocean excursions and land adventures to relaxing beach days at Descanso Beach Club.
