Under Canvas adds Yosemite location

Share

Under Canvas, the leader in upscale, outdoor hospitality, announced Under Canvas Yosemite – the company’s first-ever California camp – will open in the spring of 2025. The brand’s 12th camp, Under Canvas Yosemite, is set in a serene, mountainside forest surrounded by mature, Yosemite-native trees — 10 minutes from the west entrance of Yosemite National Park at Big Oak Flat Information Station. The idyllic, 80-acre camp is within close proximity to trailheads and a family-friendly, natural swimming hole. In addition, it has a YARTS (Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System) stop directly across from the camp’s entrance, offering car-free access into the national park multiple times each day.

Reservations open

The much-anticipated Under Canvas Yosemite will open for its inaugural season on May 22, 2025, and is accepting reservations for stays May 22-October 27, 2025.

“Under Canvas’ expansion into California has been our goal since the brand’s inception in 2012,” says Matt Gaghen, chief executive officer of Under Canvas. “We look forward to bringing the Under Canvas experience to Yosemite, home to many outdoor enthusiasts and a sought-after destination for adventure travelers around the globe. Our spectacularly beautiful property will offer exceptional access to one of the most iconic national parks in the country, inviting guests to discover the beauty of the park and immersion in nature in an entirely new way.”

As California’s most-visited national park, located in the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains, Yosemite National Park is known for its multiple waterfalls, including Yosemite Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in the country; giant sequoia groves; the sheer granite cliffs of El Capitan and Half Dome; two remaining glaciers and more. Under Canvas’s adventure concierge can assist guests in booking in-park and local experiences–from rafting, rock climbing and fly fishing, to guided hiking, driving tours, stargazing, photography classes and more, and an on-site guest experience coordinator will be available to recommend favorite local hikes and must-see attractions.

Inside the canvas

Each of the safari-inspired tents will be furnished with plush king-size beds, luxe linens, USB charging packs, bedside lanterns, heated mattress pads, a private deck, and ensuite bathroom that features a hot shower, sink and flushing toilet. Unique lodging tent accommodations will include the brand’s proprietary Stargazer Tents, complete with viewing window above the bed — perfect for stargazing — as well as the El Capitan Suite Tent, featuring two tents adjoined by a private deck, with its own outdoor area.

The camp’s lobby tent, adorned with West Elm furniture, will feature communal lounge spaces, dining areas and open game areas, all just steps away from an expansive, onsite yoga deck. The dining program will showcase al fresco and indoor café-style dining, serving freshly made, seasonal dishes and offering a selection of curated California wines and craft beers.

Available ammenities

Grab-‘n-go lunch items and snacks, ideal for fueling the day’s adventure, will be available for purchase throughout the day. Under Canvas Yosemite will also offer complimentary onsite programming for guests, including acoustic live music, daily yoga, kids’ activities, nightly s’mores and more. Premium brand partnerships will provide complimentary guest use of Lululemon mats and yoga blocks, Black Diamond hiking poles and a Gibson guitar for an acoustic fireside strum. Additional partnerships provide access to curated retail offerings for purchase, including Lululemon activewear, Hydro Flask drinkware, Sun Bum sun products, Pendleton® wool products to stay cozy and warm, and an exclusive Under Canvas line of apparel and dog-friendly items so all family members can explore California in comfort and style.

A cornerstone of the Under Canvas experience is the brand’s Mindful Approach ethos, reflected in the company’s development and operational initiatives. Under Canvas camps are designed to minimize disturbance, maximize open spaces and flow with the natural topography of the land. In an effort to reduce energy and water usage, reduce carbon footprint, and maximize guests’ immersion in nature, Under Canvas camps do not offer Wi-Fi but do feature pull-chain showers, low-flow toilets, rechargeable battery pack chargers and low-level lighting. In fact, the brand’s commitment to minimizing light pollution and protecting the night sky are setting the standard in the industry, which has recognized Under Canvas for having the first-ever DarkSky-certified lodging properties in the world.
