Fire & Sword, a unique blend of historic charm and modern flair, opens at the historic Hotel St. Michael on “Whiskey Row” in Prescott, Ariz. Named to honor the town’s storied past, Fire & Sword is more than a speakeasy; it’s a living tribute to resilience and revival on the site where Prescott’s “only fireproof hotel” famously burned in 1900. With its Prohibition-era ambiance and craft cocktail experience, Fire & Sword offers a dynamic gathering place with a nod to its history.

Fire & Sword brings Prescott’s history to life
Designed to reflect its rich, historic roots, Fire & Sword showcases original brick walls, vintage copper ceilings and an atmosphere steeped in nostalgia. During the building’s 1900 fire, patrons at The Burke (the former hotel on this site) hauled their whiskey and poker tables out to the town square, defiantly watching as the flames consumed their beloved saloon.
Today, the rebuilt space has been thoughtfully restored, preserving a century-old story within its walls. The speakeasy is also inspired by the Archangel Michael, protector and namesake of Hotel St. Michael, who is depicted wielding a flaming sword in traditional lore, guarding against future calamities. Complementing the new speakeasy space are the hotel’s recently renovated guestrooms and suites, reimaged to reflect Western hospitality, embracing the best of modern living and contemporary comforts.
“We’re thrilled to reopen Fire & Sword speakeasy, an experience that authentically honors the town’s Whiskey Row and prohibition history,” shares Regina Kilmer, general manager of Hotel St. Michael. “This speakeasy is not only a nod to the resilience and spirit of our community but is also a celebration of timeless hospitality. We’ve preserved the historic character of the space while introducing a modern, vibrant atmosphere that invites guests to create new memories in an unforgettable setting.”
Old “timey” spirits mixed with contemporary embellishments
The cocktail menu pairs the building’s old-world aesthetic with a modern twist, featuring specialty drinks such as Royal Flush Martini with Wheatley Vodka, X-Rated passionfruit liqueur, cranberry, pomegranate and lime; Aces High with Chambord, Bulleit 95 Rye, sweet and sour, egg white and bitters; and The Honest Opinion with Makers 6 French Oak Bourbon, Ancho Reyes chili liqueur, jalapeno and blueberry syrup. Wine enthusiasts will appreciate a carefully curated list, from Sonoma Chardonnay to French Burgundy, and local beer lovers will enjoy local, craft selections like the Barrio Brewing Citrazona IPA.
The speakeasy also offers weekend afternoon specials like the House Bloody Mary and Mimosa. For the holiday season, Fire & Sword has crafted some festive, holiday creations to enjoy now through the end of the year, including:
