Hive of activities
Andaz Scottsdale launched an onsite beekeeping program last year in partnership with Alvéole, an urban beekeeping organization devoted to reconnecting people in cities to nature. This September, the resort will host “From Hive to Honey Jar,” a free hands-on honey extraction workshop where guests get to experience the sweet side of nature.
Under the guidance of the Andaz Scottsdale’s residential expert beekeeper, visitors can uncap honeycomb cells, spin them in a centrifugal extractor, and filter the raw honey before jarring and labeling a take-home treat.
Beekeeper basics
Andaz is also hosting “Meet Your Bees,” an immersive experience where guests can step into the shoes of a beekeeper as they open and inspect real, buzzing hives. Ametuer beekeepers will liven their senses by touching, smelling and tasting the hive’s treasures while watching the worker bees in action. Lucky bee watchers may even catch a glimpse of Lady Andaz, the Queen Bee herself.
Pollination creations
At Andaz Scottsdale’s signature restaurant Weft + Warp, diners can get in on all the buzz by partaking in a honey-themed menu that’s as sweet as it is sophisticated. The restaurant’s Bees Knees cocktail includes a refreshing blend of gin, honey and lemon juice, garnished with a lemon twist for a zesty finish.
For an appetizing offering, there’s Weft + Warp’s Whipped Feta Crostini, topped with fresh figs, pistachios and a drizzle of golden honey. Guests won’t want to miss Berenice’s Burnt Honey Gelato, a creamy, caramelized treat with a smoky sweetness that’s both gluten-free and egg-free.
