We could not find a single flaw in Aji Spa — except for the fact that we can’t live there! Situated in a secluded and serene pocket of the Gila River Valley, south of Phoenix, Aji Spa is located on the property of Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass, offering breathtaking views and indulgent pampering. For these reasons and more, we bet you won’t want to leave either.

Cultural richness and intention boosts all spa experiences

One of the things we truly appreciated about Aji Spa is its deep-rooted commitment to the surrounding native cultures. Healing practices practiced by the Pima and Maricopa peoples are integrated throughout Aji’s various spa treatments. Everything at this relaxation oasis feels intentional — a quality some spa experiences can lack.

The cohesion and foundation of all Aji Spa services is refreshing and as steadfast as its nearby namesake, Aji Mountain. Of interest, Aji Mountain has a rich history connected with women and children, serving as a place of sacred significance.

Going back to “intention” — all the history and customs of the indigenous people of Gila River Indian Community adds an extra layer to enhance multifaceted healing. For example, before my treatment, my massage therapist bestowed a traditional Pima tribe blessing and another at treatment’s end. The room was also infused with the aroma of the creosote plant — which reminds me of the smell of rain — traditionally used for medicinal purposes and cultural rituals.

The integration of restorative traditions is a hallmark of Aji Spa, evident throughout its comprehensive menu. There is an Indigenous Collection featuring Ho’Ishp (sacred prickly pear body treatment) and Ancient Shegoi Wrap & Massage Nahtogig (Four Directions). Spagoers can also select the Chipich (indigenous signature body scrub), complete with Vichy shower (if you haven’t experienced the “Vichy” you must!) and the Matchut (Aji massage).

Specials and making the most of your spa experience

Through January 31, the spa is running a rejuvenating Golden Aura Facial, revitalizing Golden Sun Journey Body Wrap, Touch of Gold Manicure and Touch of Gold Pedicure — perfect for a little TLC for winter skin and de-stressing.

To get the most out of an Aji Spa day (or two!), we wholeheartedly recommend booking a stay at Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass. This way, you can take advantage of a full day or two of healing and restoration and promptly go next door and crash! In addition to an extensive menu of spa services — from massages, facials and body treatments to oxygen infusions and more — the spa has spacious indoor and outdoor relaxation areas.

Spend an entire spa day complete with bites from the Aji Cafe

After a decadent, melt-into-a-puddle massage, the private pool made a perfect setting for refueling. The Aji Cafe, connected to the spa lobby and pool area, has plenty of tasty provisions post-treatment or in-between services.

We swooned over the Aji Ceviche with shrimp, lump crab meat, agua chile, avocado, cilantro, jalapeno, red onion, puffed amaranth and smoked chili oil, served with blue corn tortilla chips. Another standout was the Grilled Mango, Avocado, Crab Salad, featuring mixed greens, watermelon radish, pickled fresno chiles and cilantro.

A wonderful way to close out a spa day includes an exploration of the spa’s retail shop. Here, a treasure trove of spa products can be found including comfy loungewear, jewelry and more.

The next time you’re in need of a soul-filling, memorable and ultra-relaxing self-care journey consider booking Aji Spa.
