What better way to escape both relentless heat and boredom than by visiting some of the best Southern California beach resorts in or near San Diego? From serene and secluded spaces to water sports and amenity-rich resorts, SoCal has plenty of accommodations on — or near — coastal havens.

While this is no means an exhaustive list of some of Southern California’s most picturesque oceanfront and nearby beach destinations, it is some of The Best of the Southwest’s favorites.

Beach Terrace | Carlsbad

Also known as the “Village by the Sea,” the Beach Terrace is an intimate, 48-key, family-owned oceanfront oasis in Carlsbad. The property has mastered the art of slowing down, encouraging guests to take advantage of the crashing waves and beach breezes right outside their door, lulling them into delicious naps and much-needed solace from stress. Not only does the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa boast beach-front access, it’s perfect for families, outdoor adventurists and relaxation revelers. Plus, it’s a stone’s throw from SeaWorld San Diego, the San Diego Zoo and LEGOLAND California.
